Attention: Volunteers

If you are a volunteer within the Marystown Minor Hockey Association, please pay close attention to the information provided below as it may pertain to you.

Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Record Check/Declaration (Screening Application)

An individual planning to volunteer for the upcoming season must have a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), Criminal Record Check (CRC), and Declaration (Screening Application) showing on their Hockey Canada Registry profile. Here is the link for the Screening Application: Hockey NL Screening Application Minor

The Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check is required every 3 years. If you are unsure as to whether or not you need this updated, the information is available to you on your Hockey Canada Registry Profile. To receive an RCMP Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Record Check, volunteers must do the following:

  • Email MMHA President, Darren Coady or Registrar, Julie Murphy to request a volunteer letter. This will be required at the Grand Bank Provincial Court to waive the fee:

mmhapresident2024@gmail.com

mmharegistrar2024@outlook.com

  • Contact the Provincial Court to request a Court Check: (709) 832 1450
  • The Court Check can also be completed on-line using the following link: https://apps.gov.nl.ca/pc-forms/court/home/select/
  • Once you have received your court check, visit the RCMP Detachment in Marystown (must be in person) and complete the Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check application form. Be sure to bring along your Court Check and 2 pieces of ID (photo ID and another government issued ID).
  • Once you pick up your Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check from the RCMP, please send a digital copy to the Registrar at mmharegistrar2024@outlook.com

Please note, when registering for the upcoming season, should an individual not have a current Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), Criminal Record Check (CRC), and Declaration (Screening Application) showing on their HCR profile, Registrars will not be able to add them to a team. If a member is NOT approved on the Hockey Canada Registry for Screening, they are not eligible or insured to participate in any practices or games. You are encouraged to do this as early as possible to reduce any delay in obtaining these clearances and participation.

Shift Forward (Coaches, Rostered Staff, Officials / Parents & Guardians)

For the 2026-27 season, The Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture has a mandatory online program required to be completed by all coaches, rostered staff & officials. As well, there is a Shift Forward Program for Parents/Guardians that must be completed by at least one parent/guardian per registrant.

Important Note Regarding Shift Forward:

Any coaches and rostered staff that completed The Shift Forward: Welcome to Hockey/Hockey Culture during the 2025/26 hockey season DO NOT need to redo the course The Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture that is being offered this season. You have already been credited with the course. If you are an official that completed The Shift Forward: Welcome to Hockey/Hockey Culture, you can also just return to your Spordle account, log back in to the course, and complete only the additional official-related modules.
